New Review: Deadbeat - Waking Life @ Resident Advisor (Jan. '19)

Waking Life may be Monteith’s most satisfying work since his career masterpiece, Drawn & Quartered. Like that album, it strips down the Deadbeat sound to its core elements—house, techno and dub—the results of which are undeniable. But where Drawn & Quartered was almost intimidating in its heft, Waking Life seems intent to serve the kind of uplifting and communal experience that spawned it.

Find this love letter in form of a release HERE!

As the year draws to a close I’ve decided to release a special 6 track EP dedicated to what is in my opinion the greatest festival on the planet currently, namely Waking Life. It’s available now via my Bandcamp page and will be available through all the regular digtal channels in the coming weeks. A special limited double 12 inch will also be available at the festival this year. Enjoy!

New EP: Deadbeat - Wail Ball & Cry / Dub Ball & Flange (ZamZam)

Deadbeat graced ZamZam with a release in our very first year of operation. Lending his name & gravitas to our young effort with Zam 06 meant a lot to us at the time, and is something we never forgot, so we couldn’t be happier to have him back for a second outing. Canadian by birth, now residing in Berlin, Scott Monteith is known the world over as one of the most adventurous and reliable producers in the areas of techno and dub-inflected electronic music. Extremely tight quality control over multiple full length albums and countless singles on seminal labels including ~scape, Echochord, and his own flawless BLKRTZ have made him a household name in dub techno and beyond.

New Mix: Deadbeat - Trojan Records Radio Show (Jul. '18)

For this month’s Carhartt WIP Radio Show, we present almost two hours minutes of Trojan Records music, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic reggae label. Curated by Canadian DJ, producer and record collector Scott Monteith, aka Deadbeat, the show sees him dig deep into his personal collection and the archives of Trojan Records to conduct a mix that mirrors the many ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub hues of the British label.

Founded in 1968, Trojan introduced reggae to a global audience while scoring UK chart hits with artists such as The Upsetters, Desmond Dekker, Jimmy Cliff and The Maytals. Additionally, the label licensed Jamaican music by legendary producers such as Duke Reid and Leslie Kong, helping take their sounds global.
