TBT: Resident Advisor's EX.357: Kenneth Christiansen

Celebrating 15 years of dub techno.

Kenneth Christiansen is a dance music all-rounder. He founded Copenhagen’s top club, Culture Box, with Loke Busch and runs Echocord, a popular dub techno label that was launched in 2002. Christiansen has also been a DJ since the late ‘90s, spinning regularly at Tresor in Berlin and other European hotspots. A key name in the Danish scene, Christiansen has enjoyed a long career in electronic music, which stretches back to working in record shops in the ‘90s. He soon became a driving force in house and techno, thanks to his role at Culture Box and ongoing efforts to develop his home town’s dance music scene. In light of his label’s 15th anniversary celebrations, Christiansen visited our Berlin office for a chat with Matt Unicomb about his experiences so far, where he recounted his earliest memories of electronic music and the pressures of running a club in Copenhagen.

New Remix: Yaleesa Hall X Malin - Artin (Zenker Brothers Remix)

Christmas is coming early this year with a serious remix from our favorite brothers, out on Hypercolour on Dec. 08. Get a taste below!

Dario & Marco Zenker, AKA the Zenker Brothers, take time out from their busy Ilian Tape operations to remix “Artin” into a brutal yet funky techno goliath. Congas perpetually roll forward, with frenetic 909 hats and raw and ready stabs in what may well be one of the Zenker’s finest remixes to date.

Shame on us! But lord, praise the inventor of ThrowBackThursdays.

So here we are, wonderful Julietta handing in a mix for the friends from Fasten Musique in Tokyo, recorded at a not so Unfamiliar night at notorious Club der Visionäre Berlin. TBT forever! <3

Whatever became of our world? Climate change, political crisis, we could go on for a while... But here is the good news: at least for the next 4 months we will have something giving us that bit of security we all crave for: Masters of Disasters aka Deadbeat & T.Raumschmiere with a monthly release. Not solving all problems, but for sure a first step into the right direction.

More on: A Sagittariun - Pseudo Science / Heavy Manners

Though Harris can make dance floor bombs, his dreamier tracks make the deepest impression. On “Psuedo Science,” a twinkling synth motif smoothly pulls the track skyward like a mass of helium balloons. It’s hands-in-the-air material that feels serene and measured. The equally floaty “Heavy Manners” looks back to ‘90s UK dance music, with bobbing acid melodies and foggy chords. Both tracks offer the quietly inventive and colourful perspective we’ve come to expect from A Sagittariun, a project still finding new variations on techno.
